Summary: Comprising 300,000 sq ft of Category A listed offices on a site of 6 acres, this commercially obsolete 1960’s office building required an imaginative approach, blending commercial aspirations with heritage considerations. After three years of careful study, analysis and public consultation, we submitted our planning application in September 2022. The City of Edinburgh Council planning committee unanimously voted to approve the application in June 2023 and commended the careful approach to design and consultation which had been adopted. The result is an approved scheme for a reduction in office floorspace to 200,000 sq ft, along with the addition of 194 much-needed new residential units, all within an enhanced landscape setting. The permission enables the office building will be brought up to the highest environmental and wellbeing standard to meet future net zero carbon benchmarks.
